Our Vineyards

Rostein & Dominion

In 2014 and 2018 we purchased established vineyard properties in Eden Valley, the Rostein Vineyard, and on the Barossa Valley floor, the Dominion Vineyard. These sites produce pure expressions of the climatically suited varieties of which they are planted to, which are integral parts of our premium bottlings.

Soil

Thin sandy loam heavily shot with quartz lying over a relatively pure layer of mica, in turn underlain by an oxidative red clay on a degraded schist or granite base. Rostein Vineyard, nestled high amongst the hills of the Eden Valley, is located on the east and north facing slopes of a secondary finger ridge that lies just beneath the Barossa and Eden Valley’s main dividing range. The high altitude brings notably cool nights and a greater diurnal temperature range. The granitic soils at Rostein, naturally low in fertility, create wines with notable tannin weight and strength.

Grenache Gris – 2020

Soil

Fine gravelly sands over friable, oxidative red clay with the sand becoming deeper towards the southern end of the property. Located in the heart of the Barossa Valley, the Dominion Vineyard is home to centurion old vine Grenache and Shiraz. The low fertility and increased drainage capacity of Dominion’s sandy soils are crucial in ensuring small yields of intensely flavoured fruit. The deep sands deliver wines of aromatic depth, and tannins that are firm yet fine.
